The Women in the Line of Christ
Bathsheba

Bathsheba is the name of the fifth of the women in the line of Christ. We know that she is in the line of Christ from Matthew:

Matthew 1:6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife,[1] --- 1:16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

The Women in the Line of Christ
Ruth

Ruth is the name of the fourth of the women in the line of Christ. She was also born under a curse, but was redeemed by the grace of God. The Bible devotes an entire book to the story of Ruth. It is found in the Book of that name. It is one of two books of the Bible named after a woman. Ruth's father was a Moabite.

Women in the Line of Christ
Rahab

Rahab [1] is the name of the third of the women in the line of Christ. Rahab became the wife of Salmon.[2] Before her marriage, she and her family were the only ones who survived the destruction of Jericho. At that time, she was both a prostitute and a Canaanitess. She was under a curse because the Canaanites were under a curse, and prostitutes were under a curse. Hers is one of the great stories of God's grace.

The Women in the Line of Christ
Tamar

Tamar is the name of the second of the women in the line of Christ. Although she is more prominent in scripture than Na'amah, her story is usually not really taught because it makes people uncomfortable. Her name means "palm tree." The Bible does not tell us explicitly tell us her racial origin, but since it doesn't, I believe she could well have been descended from the circumcised servants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.[1] She is the first of the four women who are mentioned in the Genealogy of Christ in Matthew 1.

The Women in the Line of Christ
Na'amah

Na'amah is the name of the first of the women in the line of Christ. She was born under a curse, but was redeemed by the grace of God. I would be willing to bet that you will not ever have ever heard of her, much less as being one of the mothers in the line of Christ. But I believe you will see why I think her story is exciting and worth studying.

The Women in the Line of Christ - Introduction

The Women in the Line of Christ

One of the themes which recurs throughout the Genealogies of Christ is the importance of the woman who, through her "Seed" or descendant, would help redeem the world from sin. Her Seed would deliver the death blow to the Great Adversary Satan. The Old Testament consistently points to the idea that Israel existed so that the virgin daughter of Judah would be available at the right place and the right time in history to give birth to the Messiah. That theme was often presented in the women who were the ancestors of Jesus Christ. The theme was first presented in the original promise and prophecy given after Adam had sinned and put the human race under the curse of death:
