The Books of Judges and Ruth
Lesson 11 - Chapter 19:1 thru 21:25
In the last lesson we studied the first of two stories from the last five chapters of Judges. With Ruth (which was originally part of the scroll of Judges) it was the first of three stories from the time of the Judges which in some way concern the little town of Bethlehem. In the last lesson we studied the story of the tribe of Dan and how most of them left their inheritance and instead conquered an innocent town outside the land and set up their own system of worship.
This week we will study the story of the tribe of Benjamin. It probably took place within a generation of the story of Dan and within eighty years of the Israel crossing the Jordan to conquer the land. The entire period of the Judges from Joshua to King Saul was about 360 years. It reflects how quickly the whole people had fallen from a respect for the LORD and justice. Probably 15 percent of the entire fighting strength of Israel was destroyed in this tale of injustice, stupidity, and revenge.

The Books of Judges and Ruth
Lesson 10 - Chapter 17:1 thru 18:31
In the last lesson we finished the historical account of the Judges in the Book of Judges, although the book of First Samuel also includes the accounts of what most theologians consider were the last two Judges of Israel, Eli [a] and Samuel.[b] The last five chapters of the Book of Judges and the Book of Ruth consist of three important stories from the period of the Judges that have nothing to do with any individual Judges. As I have mentioned before, what we know as the book of Ruth was originally part of the scroll of Judges. In my opinion, as long as they were going to isolate the book of Ruth, they should have also isolated Judges 17-18 and Judges 19-21. They might have called them the book of Dan, and the book of Benjamin. Those names precisely describe the subject of those passages. In an interesting "coincidence," all three stories concern in some way the little town of Bethlehem?

The Books of Judges and Ruth
Lesson 9 - Chapter 13:26 thru 16:31
In the last lesson we saw the LORD's promise to Manoah and his wife, two faithful members of the tribe of Dan who had stayed put on the land He had promised Dan. He promised them a son who was to be raised under special conditions. The LORD had told them that he was to ingest no wine or other fermented drink nor eat anything unclean. Also, no razor was to be used on his head. He was to be a Nazirite, set apart to God from birth. It was promised that he would begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines (Judges 13:5). We closed with his birth.

Rev. Jake Self - Proverb Study Series
My Dad
Jake Self came to Christ when he was 38 years of age. Although he was a preacher's son and a successful businessman, rancher and community leader, he described himself as "the most miserable, frustrated person on earth". His outward success was meaningless. He was systematically ruining his health with hard drinking and chain smoking. Out of his desperation he found Jesus. He also found love, joy, peace and a new definition of success.

Don't Blink
Kenny Chesney
I turned on the evening news,
Saw a old man being interviewed...
Turning a hundred and two today,
Asked him what's the secret to life,
He looked up from his old pipe...
Laughed and said "All I can say is,

The Women in the Line of Christ
Mary
Mary is the name of the seventh and last of my list of the women in the line of Christ. In her genealogy was the fulfillment of all the promises to all the ancestors who were promised or prophesied to be in the line of the Messiah and savior. They included Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, Levi, David and Aaron. Also indicated were Nathan, Zerubbabel, Joshua the High Priest, and Shimei, as we have indicated in our previous studies. To some extent, she was the culmination of the reason Israel existed. That is to provide the human heritage for the Son of Man / Son of God. This is perhaps best illustrated in the vision God gave to the Apostle John in Revelation where the "woman" represents both Israel and the mother of the King:
